Behind the scenes of Operation Lion’s Roar: secret Mossad bases, internal drones and coordinated attacks to stop Iran’s nuclear programme

Following the Israeli offensive against Iran, details have emerged about the military operation aimed at neutralising Tehran’s nuclear programme. The attack, carried out with the support of Mossad and special forces operating on Iranian territory, targeted strategic objectives such as missile bases, scientists and uranium enrichment facilities.

Secret bases and drones introduced months earlier

An Israeli intelligence source revealed that, in preparation for the attack, Mossad had set up a clandestine base inside Iran for the launch of explosive drones. The devices, introduced into the country well in advance, were activated to strike ground-to-ground missile installations near Tehran, considered a direct threat.

At the same time, Israeli special units were operating in central Iran, deploying precision weapons in open areas near Iranian surface-to-air batteries. These were also activated at the start of the air strike.

Iran and the secret nuclear programme

According to Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), intelligence has identified a sharp acceleration in Iran’s nuclear programme. ‘Leading nuclear scientists are secretly working on all the components necessary to build an atomic weapon,’ he said.

According to Israel, Iran already possesses thousands of ballistic missiles and is planning to expand its arsenal. At the same time, Tehran continues to support pro-Iranian armed groups throughout the Middle East with the aim of striking Israel.

Netanyahu: ‘We had no choice. We had to act now.’

In a televised message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that Operation Lion’s Roar was launched to ensure Israel’s ‘survival.’

‘We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme. We targeted Natanz, the leading nuclear scientists and the heart of Iran’s ballistic missile programme,’ he said.

According to Netanyahu, Iran could equip its missiles with nuclear warheads in the near future. ‘This is an intolerable threat. We are not fighting the Iranian people, but the regime that oppresses them. We will not let them obtain the most dangerous weapons. We had no choice: we had to act, and we had to act now.’
