Keir Starmer: ‘Putin is not serious about peace. Unity needed today’
British PM accuses Moscow of prevarication. Statements at the European Political Community summit
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer harshly criticised Russia’s attitude towards the peace process in Ukraine, speaking at the entrance of the European Political Community summit. ‘I think what we saw yesterday and overnight is yet more proof that Putin is not serious about peace,’ said the British leader.
According to Starmer, Russian President Vladimir Putin is only buying time: ‘He is stalling, which is why today is a really important opportunity to work with colleagues to make sure that we are absolutely united’.
Starmer’s words come as international diplomacy struggles to find concrete glimmers of an end to hostilities. Today’s summit is seen as a test of the cohesion of European countries and international partners in supporting Kiev and seeking a way out of the conflict.
