China could join the European coalition to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine if an agreement is reached between Kiev and Moscow. A move that could win Russia’s acceptance

China is reportedly considering sending its own peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, joining the ‘coalition of the willing’ formed by European countries, should a peace agreement be reached between Kiev and Moscow. The news was reported by the German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag, which cites well-informed European diplomatic sources on the issue.

China’s role in fostering peace in Ukraine

According to the sources, ‘China’s inclusion in a “coalition of the willing” could potentially increase Russia’s acceptance of the presence of peacekeeping troops on Ukrainian soil’. The issue is sensitive, as Russia has often spoken out against sending European peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.

In the last few days, US President Donald Trump has made it known that Vladimir Putin would not oppose the presence of European soldiers after an eventual peace agreement, but he has not addressed the issue in subsequent statements, not even after his recent phone call with Putin. On that occasion, a partial ceasefire was agreed upon, which included the suspension of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
