Tragedy in the Schöntal park in Aschaffenburg: two victims, including a child, and several seriously injured. Alleged attacker apprehended

A knife attack shook the town of Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia, Bavaria, near the border with Hesse. The incident took place in the Schöntal park, a green area of about nine hectares, where two people, including a child, were killed. Several others suffered serious injuries.

The German police, after an initial estimate of three adults and a child injured, confirmed the tragic loss of the child. At the scene of the attack, law enforcement officers detained a 28-year-old man, an Afghan national, who is believed to be the alleged perpetrator. According to Bild, there were no other attackers involved.

The suspect was apprehended in the vicinity of the crime scene, after an escape attempt by crossing the railway tracks at the south station. In order to allow the authorities’ operations, train traffic was temporarily suspended and the park area was cordoned off for investigation.

At the moment, the motives behind the attack remain unknown. The authorities are investigating to clarify the dynamics and understand if there are any links to other situations or specific motives. The local community is in shock over the incident.
