Syrian leader al-Jawlani aims at reintegration and peace for all Syrians

Syrian leader Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani has told the vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land, Ibrahim Faltas, of his intention to return all expatriate Syrians, including Christians, to their homeland, allowing them to live and profess their faith in Syria. These statements were reported by L’Osservatore Romano.

Commitment to the Unity of the Syrian People

Al-Jawlani emphasised that Syrian Christians are not a minority, but a fundamental part of Syria’s history. He lived for a long time in the Governorate of Idlib, where he appreciated the commitment of Father Hanna and Father Loai to the local population. He expressed great admiration for Pope Francis, calling him a man of peace.

The Challenges of the Past and the Vision for the Future

Al-Jawlani acknowledged that the Syrian people have suffered from corruption and a lack of essential services. He has visited inhuman prisons and seen the destruction of Syrian territory. However, he stated that they are working for unity and peace, with the goal of achieving political and social stability.
