Rising tensions between the sides as Hamas insists on a halt to hostilities and Israel demands surrender: Netanyahu recalls his negotiators, hostage families protest

The Israeli government has decided to withdraw the entire delegation involved in the ongoing ceasefire talks in Doha, Qatar. The news, spread by the Israeli media, was confirmed by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Senior members were already recalled on Tuesday, leaving only technical representatives in the capital.

Hostages’ families in revolt, negotiations stalled

Tel Aviv’s choice provoked harsh reactions from the families of the hostages still held in the Gaza Strip. Negotiations, in fact, remain stalled. Hamas demands a total cessation of hostilities in exchange for the release of the prisoners, while Israel demands the surrender of weapons by the group and the exit of its leaders from Gaza, conditions so far rejected.

Sinwar’s brother hit, raids also in Lebanon

According to Palestinian sources, Zakaria Sinwar, brother of the late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and his successor Muhammad Sinwar, died of wounds sustained in an Israeli air strike on Saturday. In parallel, the Israeli army struck a Hezbollah site in the Biqaa region in north-east Lebanon. The newspaper ‘Haaretz’ reports that Israeli forces operating in the south of the country attacked ‘terrorist infrastructure’ linked to the group.

Erdogan accuses Israel and the West

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said via Anadolu Agency that Israel is isolating itself on the international stage because of its military campaign in Gaza. ‘History will hold those who do wrong to account,’ he said, also criticising the inaction of Western institutions, which had allegedly “failed the test of humanity”.

90 trucks of aid entered: but the UN warns, ‘it’s just a drop’

After 80 days of siege, 90 truckloads of aid, including flour, baby food and medical supplies, entered the Strip last night. Haaretz reports this. The UN, however, warns: this is ‘a drop in the ocean’ and will not be enough to alleviate the suffering of the population.

Few bakeries reopen, but hunger remains

The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced the partial reopening of some bakeries in the south and centre of Gaza, thanks to its logistical support. But the organisation warns: after almost three months of a total aid blockade, hunger remains a widespread emergency and many more supplies are needed.

Trump supports Netanyahu’s goals in Gaza

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his support for the goals of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to a statement from the PM’s office, the two leaders had a telephone conversation in which Trump expressed full support for the Israeli line: obtaining the release of hostages, destroying Hamas, and continuing with the so-called Trump Plan for the future of the region.
