Both countries accuse each other of drone attacks after bloody attack in Pahalgam. Operation Sindoor launched, casualties and border evacuations

Heavy explosions hit the airport in the city of Jammu, in Indian-administered Kashmir, amid growing hostility between New Delhi and Islamabad. The dynamics are still not entirely clear, but according to security sources, a drone attack is suspected, while the two nations exchange mutual accusations.

The explosions come at a time of high tension, triggered by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, also in Kashmir, in which 26 people lost their lives. India blamed the attack on extremist groups based in Pakistan, thus triggering the military operation called ‘Sindoor’, which struck alleged terrorist targets across the border.

In response, Pakistan claimed to have shot down several Indian drones and military aircraft, and also announced new retaliatory measures. Clashes between the armed forces have already claimed civilian and military lives on both sides, while the authorities have ordered evacuations in border areas and suspensions of commercial flights in various parts of the subcontinent.

The situation is also causing great alarm at the international level. The United States, the European Union and the United Nations have expressed concern about a possible escalation and called on both governments to avoid a full-scale conflict by promoting dialogue and military de-escalation.
