Large-scale military exercises, Washington accuses Beijing of threatening regional security

The Chinese military announced today that it has conducted large-scale exercises around Taiwan, simulating attacks on strategic ports and energy infrastructure. This was stated by Shi Yi, spokesman for the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command, emphasising the use of ‘long-range live-fire exercises’.

Washington condemned the operation, accusing China of fuelling tensions. ‘Once again, China’s aggressive military activities and its rhetoric towards Taiwan only undermine regional security and global prosperity,’ the US State Department said in an official note.
