Attorney General Bondi seeks death penalty for Luigi Mangione: accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO

As part of Trump’s strategy against violent crime, Attorney General Bondi announces the decision to seek the death penalty

US Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old Italian-American charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was killed last year in New York.

Mangione, who was federally indicted in December for stalking and murder, is accused of shooting Thompson in front of a Manhattan hotel. In addition to the federal charges, New York state prosecutors are charging him with first-degree murder with intent to commit terrorism. The defendant has pleaded not guilty.

Bondi justified the capital punishment request as part of President Trump’s ‘agenda to stop violent crime and make America safe again’. He called Thompson’s murder ‘a premeditated, cold-blooded execution that shocked America’.
