The president announces a federal plan to remove homeless people from the capital

US President Donald Trump has said he wants to ‘immediately’ expel the entire homeless population from Washington DC. The announcement came on Truth Social, accompanied by photos of homeless people living in tents or sleeping outdoors along the city’s streets. The images, published by The Guardian, were reportedly taken during a trip by Trump from the White House to his golf club in Virginia.

Plan for security and federal control
‘I will make our capital city more beautiful and safer than it has ever been. The homeless will have to leave immediately,’ said the president, announcing a plan to reduce crime and place the city under federal control. ‘We will show you where to go, but away from the capital,’ he added, warning “criminals” that for them ‘the destination will be prison.’

Possible deployment of the National Guard
According to US media, the White House is considering deploying hundreds of National Guard members to carry out the eviction, although no final decision has yet been made. Trump has not clarified the operational details.

Precedents and controversy
This is not the first time the president has addressed the issue: two weeks ago, he had already spoken of immediate action against homeless people near the White House. His position appears to focus on aesthetics and security, while the structural causes of the problem remain unresolved.
