The French president proposes a UN coalition to stabilise Gaza and calls for a ceasefire

The Israeli government’s announcement of an expansion of military operations in Gaza City and the Mawasi camps ‘heralds a disaster of unprecedented severity and an unbridled rush towards permanent war.’ This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron in a statement released by his press office.

Macron stressed that ‘Israeli hostages and the people of Gaza will continue to be the main victims of this strategy.’ ‘This war must end now with a permanent ceasefire,’ he added, reiterating the need for an urgent solution.

The French president proposed the creation of an international coalition under the mandate of the United Nations to stabilise the Gaza Strip. ‘The priority of this mission will be to combat terrorism, stabilise Gaza, support local populations and establish peaceful and stable governance,’ Macron explained.

A stabilisation mission with international involvement, according to Macron, is the only way to secure Gaza and prevent further escalation of the conflict.
