The miniseries “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” recounts the controversial case of the murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia. Amanda Knox is also one of the producers, alongside Monica Lewinsky
One of the most controversial and closely followed court cases in Italian crime news in the 2000s is being revived in a miniseries. From 20 August, Disney+ will be showing The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, a series that recounts the murder of Meredith Kercher and the long legal process involving Amanda Knox, who was initially convicted and then finally acquitted in 2015.
The project, produced by 20th Television in collaboration with The Littlefield Company, features Amanda Knox herself as executive producer, alongside Monica Lewinsky, former White House intern known for the “Sexgate” scandal with Bill Clinton.
The series recounts “how Amanda Knox was initially found guilty of the tragic murder of her roommate and her journey to freedom”, according to the official synopsis.
Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British student on Erasmus in Perugia, was found dead in November 2007 in the house she shared with other students. The murder, which involved suffocation and stabbing, received international media coverage, partly due to the involvement of Knox and her boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito. Both were arrested and convicted, but later acquitted. The only person definitively convicted of the murder is Rudy Guede, who was found to be the perpetrator of the crime.
The cast of the series includes Grace Van Patten, Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei. The first two episodes will be available from 20 August, followed by one episode per week. The series will be shown in the original language with Italian subtitles for the English parts.
K.J. Steinberg (This Is Us) is the creator and executive producer of the series, directed by Michael Uppendahl. Other producers include Chris Robinson, Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield.
