The US president raises the tone on nuclear issues: ‘Tehran must not enrich uranium. Our army is the strongest ever with many weapons… But we hope we won’t have to use them.’

‘We have the strongest military we have ever had. We are stockpiling weapons at a rate never before seen in our country. However, we hope we will never have to use them.’ Thus, during the night, US President Donald Trump sent an unequivocal message to the Islamic Republic of Iran, speaking on Truth Social in the midst of negotiations on Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme.

Shortly before, in another post, Trump had clarified the American position: ‘Under our potential agreement, we will not allow any uranium enrichment.’ This is a clear stance that contradicts what Axios leaked in recent hours, according to which the proposal presented by the US on Saturday would instead allow Iran to carry out low-level enrichment on its territory for a period to be defined.

Iran, for its part, continues to claim the right to enrich uranium and insists on the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme. But Trump’s tone seems to go beyond simple diplomatic language, with muscular rhetoric evoking scenarios of force and deterrence.

The American president reiterated his close contact with military leaders and his intention to maintain a posture of strategic superiority: ‘I just had a great conversation with our military leaders,’ he wrote, emphasising the level of preparedness and armament achieved by the US armed forces.

Trump’s warning sounds like a veiled threat to Tehran: no concessions on nuclear power, and weapons ready for use if necessary.
