The US president and Defence Secretary Hegseth deny that Iran has removed sensitive components from the damaged nuclear site. ‘The media reports are fake news, the facilities have been seriously damaged.’

US President Donald Trump has denied speculation in some media outlets that Tehran removed sensitive materials from the Fordow nuclear site, which was hit during the US attack over the weekend. In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed the reports as ‘fake news’, stating that ‘the cars and small trucks at the site belonged to concrete workers trying to cover the top of the ducts’. According to the president, no material was taken away: ‘It would be too long, too dangerous, and very heavy and difficult to move!’.

Pentagon support and attacks on the press

Trump’s line was also confirmed by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who said at a Pentagon conference: ‘I have not seen any intelligence information indicating that anything has been moved.’ Hegseth also called the operation against Iranian facilities ‘a complex and historically successful mission,’ harshly criticising the US press for spreading what he called a distorted narrative of the military intervention.

Accusations against the media and the president’s defence

Trump doubled down on his attacks against the media, particularly the New York Times and CNN, accusing them of ‘making up fake stories’ and even calling for the dismissal of those who spread unfounded news. In another post, he called Hegseth’s speech at the Pentagon ‘one of the most professional and substantive conferences I have ever seen.’

Damage to facilities and intelligence sources

According to Hegseth, the US attacks “rendered Iran’s enrichment facilities inoperable”. In support of this claim, he cited the Israeli atomic agency, the IAEA and the CIA, which, according to the secretary, confirm the “enormous damage” suffered by Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Military recruitment and Trump’s leadership

During his speech, the Secretary of Defence also highlighted the success of Trump’s leadership in strengthening the attractiveness of the armed forces, with ‘record levels of recruitment’ in the Army, Navy and Air Force. However, he accused the media of ignoring these results due to alleged political bias.
