New attacks between Israel and Iran: rockets on Tel Aviv, explosions in Tehran

Second night of war between the two countries. Iranian missiles strike central Israel: three dead and 80 wounded. Israeli raids on Iranian capital

The toll has risen to at least three dead and 80 wounded in the missile attack launched by Iran overnight against Israel. According to Times of Israel reports, several explosions hit the center of the country, including Tel Aviv, causing damage and several people injured in serious condition, as confirmed by Magen emergency service David Adom.

Iranian media speak of “hundreds of missiles” fired, while the Israeli Defense Ministry estimates fewer than 100. Iranian forces claim to have shot down Israeli drones engaged in reconnaissance missions in the country’s northwest Salmas region, accusing Israel of airspace violation.

The Israeli response came with Operation Rising Lion, announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the stated goal of striking at the heart of Iran’s nuclear program. In response, Tehran activated Phase 3 of Operation True Promise. The Iranian capital, Tehran, was the scene of new attacks: explosions were reported in the Pastour district-where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeskhian reside-and near Mehrabad Airport, from which columns of smoke rose.

In Israel, a new wave of rockets set off alarms in the middle of the night, prompting the population to take refuge in bunkers again, with loud detonations felt in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. This is the third wave of rockets from the Iranian side in less than 36 hours.

At the diplomatic level, the crisis has derailed ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States on the nuclear issue. Tehran canceled the sixth round of talks scheduled for Sunday in Oman, accusing Washington of giving the green light to the Israeli attack. “You cannot negotiate while allowing Tel Aviv to strike our territory,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei.

Hamas also expressed support for Iran. Izzat al-Risheq, a leader of the movement, called the attack “a success,” stressing the inability of Israel’s defense systems-Iron Dome and David’s Sling-to stop the missiles. “Israel will suffer from the fire it ignited in the Middle East,” al-Risheq said in a note picked up by Al Jazeera.

The conflict, which threatens to spread beyond the borders of the two countries, is turning into a major factor in regional destabilization.
