Born in Montevideo on 20 May 1935, Mujica spent much of his life fighting for a more just Uruguay. A former guerrilla of the National Liberation Movement-Tupamaros and president from 2010 to 2015.
Known for his austere lifestyle, he chose to donate much of his salary to social initiatives, demonstrating an unparalleled dedication to public service. His experience in prisons during the military dictatorship of the 1970s deeply shaped his thinking, making him a symbol of resistance and democracy.
