Attack without political motive. The woman will be transferred to a psychiatric facility

The perpetrator of Friday night’s stabbing at Hamburg Central Station has confessed. She is a 39-year-old German citizen, arrested on the spot and now charged with 15 counts of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm. According to the police, she will be transferred to a psychiatric facility, as she shows clear signs of mental instability.

The attack, believed to be devoid of any political or ideological motive, left 18 people injured, who were hit with stab wounds of varying degrees. Four of them – three women aged 24, 52 and 85 and a man aged 24 – were hospitalised in an initially critical condition, but are now stable. Seven others suffered serious injuries and seven more minor injuries.

The dynamics are still being investigated. According to investigative sources, the woman acted alone and without warning. The police ruled out links to terrorism at an early stage.
