Musk at Italian League congress: ‘Need strong alliance between U.S. and Europe’
Entrepreneur speaks remotely and touches on key topics: immigration, freedom of speech, trade tariffs, war in Ukraine
Elon Musk remote starring at the League congress today in Florence. Connected live from the United States, the patron of Tesla, SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) answered Matteo Salvini’s questions by addressing a range of issues from international trade to security, immigration and free speech.
Musk opened his speech by calling for greater cooperation between the United States and Europe: “I hope we can build a stronger partnership, with a zero-duty zone and fewer barriers for people who want to move to work.”
On immigration, he expressed a clear position: “Mass immigration is crazy. It will destroy any country that allows it, because the country is not its geography, but the people who live in it. Even a great country like the United States would be transformed.”
The entrepreneur also spoke about terrorism: “We will see mass killings in Europe. Your friends, your families, will be at risk.”
Always an advocate of free speech, Musk called restrictions imposed in its name “fascist”: “Anyone who wants to reduce free speech is a Mussolini, a Stalin, a Hitler. On X we are transparent, we cut absurd expenses but we are attacked viciously.”
Finally, a passage on the conflict in Ukraine, with a reference to U.S. President Trump: “I have no respect for those who encourage war. It is time to stop the slaughter. Trump is right: we must say enough. People are dying in the trenches without knowing why.”
The speech drew immediate reactions, confirming the weight of Musk’s views on a global scale, including in European political contexts.
