EU-US Summit in Rome? Hypothesis on the table on the occasion of Pope Francis’ funeral
Von der Leyen and Trump will both be in the capital on Saturday: Brussels considers a meeting
The European Commission is considering the possibility of organising a summit meeting between the European Union and the United States in Rome, where Ursula von der Leyen and President Donald Trump will be attending the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday. This was stated by the Commission’s chief spokeswoman, Paula Pinho, during a press briefing in Brussels, pointing out, however, that there is no confirmed meeting at the moment.
Trump in Rome as early as Friday, von der Leyen expected Saturday morning
According to White House reports, Trump will arrive in Rome on Friday morning with First Lady Melania, and will leave on Saturday evening. The President of the European Commission is instead expected on Saturday morning, together with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and the President of the European Council Antonio Costa.
