Queen Camilla sent a letter to Gisèle Pelicot expressing solidarity and recognition for her courage in facing years of violence. The case has shaken France and the world

Queen Camilla sent a letter to Gisèle Pelicot, the French woman victim of systematic sexual abuse by her husband Dominique Pelicot, to express her solidarity and admiration. Camilla, who has been supporting victims of domestic violence for years, wanted to recognise Gisèle’s ‘extraordinary courage’ in confronting and making public her tragic experience, which involved dozens of men recruited by her husband to abuse her, with the assaults documented in more than 200 videos.

The case, which shocked France, led to the conviction of 51 men involved in the crime. Dominique Pelicot, the retired electrician, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Gisèle, who chose to waive her anonymity during the trial, was named by the press as one of the most influential women of 2025, thanks to her decision to publicly fight against her abuser.

Queen Camilla’s letter comes as a sign of support for the woman, who has received a large number of letters of support, including one from the British royal family. Her lawyer confirmed that Gisèle was deeply moved by this gesture, feeling proud to see her battle recognised internationally.

This gesture demonstrates the Queen’s long-standing commitment to championing the cause of victims of domestic violence, as evidenced by her recent visit to Brave Spaces in Exeter, a charity that supports vulnerable people in the UK.
