US and Qatar are working towards a new ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with the possibility of releasing hostages held in Gaza. On the ground, the war continues with over 50,000 casualties since the conflict began.

The United States and Qatar are working on a proposal to relaunch negotiations between Israel and Hamas, with the aim of reaching a new ceasefire and obtaining the release of hostages held in Gaza, including American soldier Edan Alexander. According to Arab sources quoted by Channel 12, the proposal calls for Hamas to release the last American hostage in exchange for a declaration by President Donald Trump in favour of resuming negotiations. However, the Israeli government is not yet aware of the proposal, which has not been officially presented.

Meanwhile, Egypt sent a delegation to Qatar to discuss the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israel. Egypt mediated an earlier ceasefire between the parties, reached in January.

On the fighting front, the conflict continues to claim victims. Since 18 March, Israeli attacks have killed 855 people in Gaza, bringing the total number of casualties since the war began on 7 October 2023 to over 50,000. Among the recent victims is Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua, a Hamas spokesman, who was killed in an Israeli operation in the north of the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces accused al-Qanoua of being one of the main instigators of terrorism and of spreading propaganda for the destruction of Israel.

Meanwhile, street protests against Hamas continue in the Gaza Strip, with demonstrators demanding an end to the war and the liberation of the territory from the Islamic movement’s control. However, Hamas has denied that the protests are directed against them, claiming that the demonstrations were manipulated to serve the interests of the Israeli occupation.
