Significant success thanks to a new air defence system

Ukraine has announced that it has neutralised a super bomb used by Russia. Kiev forces intercepted a Kab glider bomb dropped by Russia over the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation was made official by Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat, who emphasised the effectiveness of the new defence system used.

Characteristics of the Kab Bombs

Kab bombs, highly destructive Soviet-era devices already used by Russia in the Syrian war, are usually launched 50-70 km from the target. These devices start their trajectory from a high altitude, beyond the firing range of ordinary air defence, and reach the target thanks to their wings.

An Experimental Interception System

According to unofficial sources, the neutralisation of the Kab bomb was carried out with an experimental system. Ihnat emphasised the need for a ‘complex approach’ combining ground- and air-based defence systems to repel Russian glider bombs. ‘In 2024 alone, the enemy launched up to 40,000 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine. The air force is now actively implementing a comprehensive approach to counter KABs, using various methods,’ he explained.

Contradictory news about a Russian Flop

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Telegram channels have been reporting on an alleged Russian failure. According to these sources, Moscow allegedly launched an Oreshnik missile, a weapon introduced in autumn 2024, which exploded on Russian territory without approaching Kiev. However, this information turned out to be unfounded: satellites did not detect any explosion associated with the crash of a missile into Russian territory. The Ukrainian Counter-Disinformation Centre confirmed that no launch had taken place in the last 24 hours.
