Trump imposes 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium from China and Europe
The measure will take effect on 12 March for national security reasons
US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from China and Europe. In an executive order, Trump stated that such imports ‘threaten to compromise national security’ and that, as a result, existing trade agreements will be suspended as of 12 March 2025.
The decision could inspire economic tensions with trading partners and will have a significant impact on international steel industries.
