Nato, Rutte: ‘Allies will spend far more than 2% on defence’
Atlantic Alliance Secretary General announces new investments in the coming months
Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said that more than two-thirds of the alliance members already spend more than two per cent of GDP on defence, but that investments will have to increase further.
‘In the coming months the allies will decide exactly how much, but I can assure you of one thing: it will be much, much more than 2%,’ he said in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.
The announcement comes amid growing pressure on member states to strengthen their military capabilities, particularly in the face of tensions with Russia and the need to support Ukraine.
