French president ruled out belligerent troops, but speculates support missions and peacekeeping operations
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that a new meeting on Ukraine will be held tomorrow, involving several European and non-European countries. In an interview with the regional press, Macron emphasized that the war in Ukraine poses an “existential threat” to Europe, citing various examples of Russian actions, including cyber attacks, attempts at electoral manipulation, anti-Semitic acts in France, and migration pressure in Poland.
While discarding sending “belligerent troops” to Ukraine, Macron speculated on the possibility of sending experts or troops in limited terms, outside conflict zones, to support Ukrainians and show solidarity. In collaboration with the UK, France is also exploring the idea of a UN-mandated peacekeeping operation, to be launched on the front lines, should a peace agreement with Moscow be reached.
