The former US president plans to meet quickly with Putin to discuss ending the conflict. Criticism of Biden for handling the crisis

Donald Trump said that if he returns to the White House, he will do ‘everything to stop’ the conflict in Ukraine, seeking a solution for both countries. The former US president said in an interview with Newsmax that he intends to meet quickly with Vladimir Putin to discuss the ‘horrible war’ that began with the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February, three years ago.

Trump stressed that ‘there is only one strategy’ to end the conflict and that it depends on the Russian leader. ‘I can’t imagine that Putin is very happy with how it went, because it didn’t exactly go well for him either,’ he explained, adding that he “wants a meeting” and that he will meet with him “very quickly”. According to Trump, the conflict could have been avoided had he been in the White House, accusing Joe Biden of ‘enormous incompetence’ and claiming that this is the main cause of the war.

The former president also expressed concern about the heavy casualties on both sides, pointing out that the number of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers has been reduced to levels not seen since World War II. Trump described Ukraine as ‘decimated’, with cities that ‘look like large demolition sites’. He reiterated that had he been in office, he would have called a meeting between Zelensky and Putin to reach an agreement, insisting that war would never break out under his administration.
