Trump revives Greenland annexation: US intelligence alert
Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard orders priority intelligence gathering on the island. Target: independence and resource exploitation
US intelligence agencies have been ordered to step up intelligence gathering in Greenland, a clear signal that the Trump administration has officially activated the services apparatus to support the campaign over the annexation of the Arctic island. This was revealed by the Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources on a directive issued by Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence.
The document, known internally as a collection-emphasis message, elevates Greenland to a strategic priority. Agencies – both operational and those specialising in interception and satellite monitoring – are to focus their activities on the independence movement and the local and Danish attitudes towards the exploitation of natural resources by the United States.
They are also asked to identify people in Greenland and Denmark who might support the American line, in what appears to be the first concrete step towards reviving the idea already put forward by Trump in 2019 to acquire the island, which was rejected by Copenhagen at the time.
Asked about the issue, National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt merely reiterated that ‘the president has been clear: the United States is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic’.
Tulsi Gabbard’s sharp retort to the conservative newspaper’s revelations: ‘The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep state agents with politicised leaks against the president’.
