Donald Trump commented on the error in the chat on Signal involving the editor of The Atlantic, reassuring on the success of the operation against the Houthis in Yemen

US President Donald Trump downplayed the significance of the incident involving The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg accidentally added in a chat on Signal containing plans for raids in Yemen against the Houthis. Speaking to NBC News, Trump described the incident as ‘the only hiccup in two months, and it turned out not to be a big deal’. He also expressed full confidence in his national security team and in particular in advisor Mike Waltz, who invited the journalist to the chat.

According to the president, Goldberg’s presence did not affect military operations and Waltz simply made a mistake. ‘Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, he is a good person,’ Trump added, shifting the blame to one of the adviser’s staff members who had Goldberg’s number saved in his phone.

Although Trump seems to have closed the matter, Politico’s revelations speak of tensions within the White House. Some senior advisers believe that Waltz may not survive the incident politically, considering him irresponsible for not checking the chat participants. Nevertheless, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stressed that no war plans or classified material was shared in the chat, describing Goldberg as known for sensationalism.

Leavitt also stated that the White House is investigating how Goldberg’s number was entered in error, but concluded by stating that the raids against the Houthis were a success, thanks to the decisive leadership of Trump and his team.
