Putin praises and thanks Saudi mediation and in particular Mohammed bin Salman
Russian President Vladimir Putin appreciates Saudi efforts to facilitate dialogue between Russians and Americans as Russian anti-aircraft fire shoots down four drones headed for Moscow
After conditionally accepting the US truce proposal in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. In recent days, Saudi Arabia has hosted separate rounds of negotiations between the Americans, Russians, and Ukrainians. The Kremlin reported that during the conversation yesterday evening, Putin praised the Saudi mediation and thanked the prince for ‘creating a favourable atmosphere’ for the talks between Russians and Americans held on 18 February.
Mohammed bin Salman, for his part, emphasised the importance of efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and offered further support to normalise relations between Russia and the US. A statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Crown Prince reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at reaching a political solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In parallel, Russian anti-aircraft fire shot down four drones heading towards Moscow. This was stated by the mayor of the capital, Sergey Sobyanin, via Telegram. Debris from the drones fell on a residential building, damaging its roof, while the airports of Vnukovo and Grabtsevo, which had temporarily suspended operations, resumed normal operations.
