The victims were in Cianjur, West Java province. According to the authorities, they had mixed drinks bought online

At least nine people died and three others are hospitalised in Indonesia after consuming adulterated alcohol during a party in Cianjur, West Java province. This was announced by the police, confirming that the victims ranged in age from 29 to 55 and were from the locality of Pademangan.

According to the Jakarta Globe, the participants allegedly prepared the deadly liquor themselves, mixing alcoholic beverages bought on the Internet with other ingredients. Some victims died in hospital, while others died in their homes before they could receive help.

Indonesia has strict rules on the sale of alcohol and imposes high taxes, making alcoholic beverages expensive for many people. This prompts some to produce artisanal liquor using risky methods, increasing the danger of fatal poisoning.
