Syria: Damascus airport reopened after Assad’s fall
First flight from Qatar lands in Syrian capital after 13 years of disruption
Syria’s Damascus airport has officially reopened after being closed following the fall of Bashar Assad on 8 December, when Syrian rebels toppled the regime. After 13 years of interruption, a flight from Qatar was the first to touch down at the Syrian capital’s international airport, marking the resumption of air links with the country.
The closure of the airport had occurred on the same day as the fall of Damascus, which saw the flight of former President Assad, now in exile in Russia.
