Mojtaba Khamenei’s Reported Sexual Orientation Draws Attention in U.S. Intelligence Briefings

U.S. intelligence reportedly informed President Donald Trump that Mojtaba Khamenei may be gay, according to the New York Post, amid reports of injuries and family losses during early Tehran attacks.

During recent daily White House briefings on the war in Iran, President Donald Trump was reportedly informed by U.S. intelligence that Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old newly appointed Supreme Leader of Tehran, might be gay. The briefing, which addressed Khamenei’s status following early Israeli and U.S. raids, took place shortly after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The New York Post, citing two intelligence sources and a White House insider, reported that Trump initially reacted with surprise and then laughed loudly. Other senior officials allegedly shared the response, with one described as laughing for days. The Post noted that U.S. agencies considered the information credible and did not view it as an attempt to delegitimize Iran’s new spiritual leader.

While the article does not confirm Khamenei’s alleged same-sex relationships, it emphasizes that U.S. intelligence lacks photographic evidence. However, the details reportedly originate from “one of the most protected sources the government possesses.” The Supreme Leader’s personal life has been under U.S. scrutiny for roughly two years, tracing back to the helicopter crash that killed former President Ebrahim Raisi, a potential successor to Ali Khamenei.

Further background includes a 2008 U.S. State Department briefing to the American embassy in London, later revealed by WikiLeaks, noting Khamenei’s past medical treatments in the United Kingdom for impotence before marrying around age 30, as required by Iranian convention, and fathering children. The February 28 attacks in Tehran reportedly resulted in the deaths of Khamenei’s wife and one of his three children.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Mojtaba Khamenei, describing him as an “unacceptable” leader for the United States. The president remains uncertain about Khamenei’s exact condition, stating only that he is injured but likely alive. So far, Khamenei has appeared publicly only via a message on state television. Reports suggest he sustained facial injuries in the early attacks, though details remain unconfirmed. Rumors circulated about possible leg amputation or, according to the Kuwaiti outlet Al-Jarida, a transfer to a Moscow hospital for treatment.
