Dr Plasencia faces up to 40 years in prison. Serious charges also for Hollywood’s alleged ‘ketamine queen’

New revelations in the investigation into the death of Matthew Perry, the unforgettable Chandler Bing from the series Friends. Dr Salvador Plasencia, a Californian doctor, admitted in federal court in Los Angeles that he illegally administered ketamine to the actor, who died in October 2023. He pleaded guilty to four charges, facing up to 40 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, Plasencia exploited Perry’s vulnerability, known for his long battle with substance addiction. The doctor allegedly supplied ketamine illegally, knowing that the actor was under controlled therapeutic treatment for resistant depression.

The investigation uncovered a structured trafficking operation: Dr Plasencia obtained supplies from another accomplice, Dr Mark Chavez (who also admitted his guilt), and personally delivered the doses to Perry’s villa. In two weeks, about 20 vials purchased for about $12 were resold to the actor for $2,000 each.

A chilling detail emerges from the prosecution’s documents: a few days before the actor’s death, Plasencia allegedly wrote in a private message referring to Perry: “I wonder how much this idiot will pay me”. For prosecutors, this is a clear indication of the predatory nature of the entire operation.

Among those under investigation is Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as the alleged “queen of ketamine” in Hollywood. The woman, who has dual British and American citizenship, is accused of supplying the fatal dose and could face life imprisonment. She has pleaded not guilty.

Perry’s personal assistant and an intermediary involved in the trafficking have also chosen to cooperate with the authorities, pleading guilty.

Dr Plasencia’s sentence is expected in the coming months, while investigations continue to shed light on the responsibilities of those who, according to the prosecution, fuelled the actor’s relapse into a vicious cycle of addiction that culminated in tragedy.
