UN accuses Israel: “Hunger used as a weapon of war in Gaza”

Unrwa Commissioner Lazzarini’s alarm: “No aid for two months, population collapses. More is at risk from hunger than from bombings.”

The UN accuses Israel of using hunger as a “weapon of war” in the Gaza Strip. The accusation was revived by Unrwa Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini during a visit to London in an interview with the BBC.

“I have no more words to describe the misery and tragedy of the people of Gaza, who have not received any aid for two months now,” Lazzarini said, emphasizing the ongoing humanitarian drama. “Hunger is rampant, people are at the point of exhaustion. We can expect that in the coming weeks people will die more from lack of food than from the bombings,” he added.

According to Unrwa, the blockade on humanitarian aid is actually being used as a tool of war, exacerbating the situation of a population already suffering from months of conflict.
