The official announcement: the 38th edition of the America’s Cup will be held in the Gulf of Naples, with the teams’ bases in Bagnoli. Historic opportunity for the revitalization of the city and the south

For the first time in history, the America’s Cup will be held in Italy. The 38th edition of the world’s most important sailing trophy will be held in Naples in 2027. The official announcement was made by Premier Giorgia Meloni, who stressed her pride in a historic achievement: “Italy will be the protagonist of a global event that combines tradition, innovation and competitive spirit.”

The choice of the Neapolitan capital represents an opportunity to relaunch the South and the entire country. “Naples will be at the center of the world,” Meloni said, ”and the America’s Cup will help accelerate the redevelopment plan for Bagnoli, transforming it into a modern tourist and commercial hub.

It was a team effort that involved Sports Minister Andrea Abodi, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and the government, as pointed out by Abodi himself: “This is a victory for the whole nation, with major sports, social, tourism and industrial spin-offs.”

Giorgetti remarked on the strategic importance of the choice: “The 38th America’s Cup will be an engine for the redevelopment of Bagnoli, an area that will host the bases of the challenging teams, becoming a symbol of redemption for the territory.”

Mayor Manfredi also expressed satisfaction with the milestone: “We worked hard on the dossier winning the competition with other cities. It will be the largest sporting event ever hosted by Naples, taking place in a unique setting, between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo, right on the 2,500th anniversary of the founding of the city and on the eve of Naples European Capital of Sport 2026.”

The event will boost the blue economy, tourism and local entrepreneurship, acting as a catalyst for the environmental remediation and urban regeneration of Bagnoli.
