In his speech to students at Moscow’s Bauman Polytechnic, the Kremlin leader praised the US entrepreneur, calling him ‘as obsessed with an idea as the pioneers of space’
Vladimir Putin publicly praised Elon Musk during a speech at Moscow’s Bauman Polytechnic, comparing him to Sergei Korolev, the Soviet engineer considered the father of the USSR’s space programme. “Musk is someone who rants about Mars, obsessed with an idea. They are rare people, but like Korolev, in the end their dreams produce results,” the Russian president said.
Musk’s role in the Ukraine conflict and connection with Trump
In his speech, Putin also mentioned Musk’s influence on US policy and his stance on the Ukraine conflict. He recalled that the entrepreneur, owner of X (formerly Twitter), contributed to the election of Donald Trump to the White House and did not hesitate to criticise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of wanting “an eternal war”.
Technology at the centre: from Starlink to SpaceX rockets
Putin’s reference to Musk comes at a time when the technology developed by the SpaceX founder – in particular the Starlink satellite network – also plays a key role on the military front. Although Starlink satellites are used by Ukrainian forces, the Kremlin seems to recognise the capabilities and vision of the American entrepreneur.
