Netanyahu in U.S.: “I will also discuss duties on Israel with Trump”
The Israeli Prime Minister announces a visit to Washington after U.S. tariffs hit Israeli goods. Talks with Trump, Lutnick and Witkoff on the agenda
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he will travel to the United States in the coming days to hold a high-level meeting with President Donald Trump. The visit follows the U.S. announcement of new trade tariffs that include a 17% duty on some Israeli goods.
“I will be the first international leader to meet with President Trump after this announcement,” Netanyahu said, speaking to reporters before boarding his flight to Washington. “We will talk about the hostages, about completing our victory in Gaza, and naturally about the tariff regime that has also been applied to Israel.”
According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the trip will include meetings not only with Trump but also with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
Netanyahu emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two countries during this sensitive period: “This visit reflects the personal bond and the strategic ties between Israel and the United States, especially now.”
The Israeli government is concerned about the potential economic impact of the new tariffs and intends to seek exemptions or adjustments that could reduce the pressure on Israeli exports.
