Marine Le Pen sentenced to 4 years in prison: ‘A political decision that violates the rule of law’
Rassemblement National leader denounces sentence making her ineligible for five years and announces appeal. ‘Millions of French people deprived of their candidate’
Marine Le Pen harshly criticised the sentence that sentenced her to four years in prison and rendered her ineligible for five years, calling it ‘a political decision’. During Tf1’s 8pm newscast, the Rassemblement National group leader in the National Assembly spoke of a violation of the rule of law, since, according to her, the magistrate would have prevented the appeal.
Le Pen expressed her intention to appeal as soon as possible, claiming her own innocence and that of her party. ‘Millions of French people are outraged,’ she said, complaining that “judges have applied laws from an authoritarian regime” and that the decision deprives millions of voters of their candidate for the 2027 elections.
The RN leader ruled out the possibility of seeking a presidential pardon and reiterated her confidence in the appeal court, hoping for a neutral verdict. Despite the conviction, she assured that this does not represent a withdrawal from political life.
