China denies reports of troops for peacekeeping operation in Ukraine
The Chinese government rejects rumours about a possible sending of troops to Ukraine, reiterating its stance on the crisis
China promptly denied reports suggesting a possible involvement of its troops in a peacekeeping operation in Ukraine in the context of a ceasefire reached. ‘They are completely false news,’ said Guo Jiakun, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, responding to those asked for confirmation on the possibility that Beijing was considering sending soldiers to Ukraine, as reported by the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag on Saturday.
According to the German newspaper, Chinese officials had discussed in Brussels the possibility of joining international peacekeeping forces in the region. However, the Beijing government made it clear that its position on the Ukrainian crisis remains unchanged and does not include sending troops.
