Vance: ‘If Moscow does not negotiate peace in Ukraine, sanctions and military pressure’
The US vice-president reiterates the hard line: ‘Everything will be on the table’ in talks on the war in Ukraine
The US could impose tougher sanctions and consider military action against Russia if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a peace deal that guarantees Ukraine’s long-term independence. This was stated by US Vice President JD Vance in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, stressing that the option of sending US troops to Ukraine remains ‘on the table’ in case Moscow does not negotiate in good faith.
Vance adopted a stricter tone than Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who in recent days had ruled out direct engagement of US forces in the conflict. ‘The United States will cherish Ukraine’s sovereign independence in the upcoming negotiations with Russia,’ the vice president said, reiterating that “everything will be on the table,” including possible ’military pressure tactics.’
Today, Vance is expected in Munich for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Security Conference.
