Zelensky accuses Russia of burning the faces of dead North Korean soldiers in Ukraine

Ukrainian president denounces shocking practices by Russian troops and criticises negotiations without Ukraine’s involvement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has launched a serious accusation against Russia, claiming that Russian forces are burning the faces of North Korean soldiers who fell in battle in Ukraine to hide their presence. Zelensky posted a video on Twitter denouncing the practice and stating: ‘This madness must be stopped’. According to the Ukrainian leader, Moscow is trying to erase evidence of the use of North Korean soldiers in the conflict.

During a conversation with readers of Le Parisien, Zelensky reiterated that no country or leader can negotiate with Vladimir Putin without the involvement of Ukraine, as Kiev is the main victim of the conflict. He emphasised that any negotiations must take Ukraine’s will into account, adding that the country’s future will also depend on NATO and EU membership.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has proposed a ceasefire with Russia, avoided responding directly to Zelensky’s criticism, stressing that it is up to Ukraine to decide whether to accept the proposal. Orbán made the proposal during a recent conversation with Putin, but Zelensky dismissed the initiative as a public relations manoeuvre.

Meanwhile, on the war front, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that it had taken control of two more settlements in the Donetsk region, while in Europe, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recalled the impact of sanctions against Moscow. Von der Leyen pointed out that the rouble is at its lowest since the beginning of the conflict and anticipated further restrictive measures against Russia.
