The attack has the appearance of being well planned. The killer is on the run
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed this morning in New York in an apparent premeditated murder. According to the police report and sources close to the investigation, the 50-year-old executive was shot in the chest near the New York Hilton Midtown on Sixth Avenue at around 6:45am. Thompson was immediately transported to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he died shortly after from his injuries.
Assailant on the run
The assailant fled eastward after shooting. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a cream-coloured jacket, a black mask and a grey backpack. Authorities are working to track him down, but no further details on his identity or motive for the attack have yet been given.
A manager at the top of the industry
Thompson had been at the helm of UnitedHealthcare since 2021, overseeing one of the largest insurance companies in the US, with revenues of $372 billion in 2023. The company offers insurance and pharmaceutical services through several divisions, playing a crucial role in the US healthcare system.
Ongoing investigations
Law enforcement agencies are exploring several leads, including that of a premeditated attack. No official statement has yet been released by Thompson’s family or his company.
