The Treasury Department targets key Iranian leaders amid ongoing demonstrations for fundamental freedoms and economic security

U.S. Treasury Imposes New Sanctions on Iran  – The U.S. Treasury Department announced a fresh set of sanctions against Iran in response to the government’s crackdown on ongoing protests.

“Today, as the Iranian people courageously take to the streets to demand fundamental freedoms and economic security, the Treasury Department is taking action against those responsible for the brutal repression of peaceful demonstrators,” stated Secretary Scott Bessent. The sanctions specifically target key Iranian leaders involved in the suppression of citizens exercising their right to protest.

These measures mark the latest step in U.S. efforts to pressure Tehran to respect human rights and democratic principles. According to the Treasury, the sanctions will freeze any assets held by the designated leaders in the United States and prohibit Americans from conducting transactions with them.

Officials emphasize that the sanctions are intended to hold Iranian authorities accountable while supporting the Iranian population’s peaceful calls for change. The announcement underscores the U.S. commitment to responding to human rights violations without escalating direct military confrontation.

The U.S. Treasury’s move reflects growing international concern over the repression of demonstrators in Iran and reinforces pressure on the government to halt its punitive actions against civilians. These latest measures are part of a broader strategy to apply economic and diplomatic pressure on Iran’s leadership.
