The North Korean leader denounces “growing threats” and calls for a radical change in military strategy

“The security of our state is becoming more serious every day, and this requires an epochal and rapid change in military theory and practice, with a radical expansion of nuclear armament.” With these words, reported by the official KCNA news agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for a strengthening of the nuclear arsenal during a visit to the destroyer Choe Hyon.

The message comes on the heels of the start of joint exercises between the United States and South Korea, which Kim called “a hostile and confrontational expression toward the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” and “a clear demonstration of the intent to wage war and the main cause of the violation of peace and security in the region.”

According to the Pyongyang leader, the military maneuvers have always been “provocative and threatening,” but their severity is growing due to the inclusion of a “nuclear component.” Hence the announcement of the need for a decisive response: “A proactive and radical change is now inevitable.”
