Tragedy on E10, rescue operations still ongoing. Farnesina monitors for Italians among passengers involved

A serious road accident occurred today, Dec. 26, in northern Norway, where a tour bus with 58 people on board went off the road, ending up partially in the sea. The accident occurred along the E10, one of the main arterial roads in the area, about 30 kilometers southeast of the town of Svolvær in Nordland, a remote region with often difficult weather conditions.

The provisional toll provided by police is dramatic: three people lost their lives and four others are in serious condition. Local authorities, quoted by national broadcaster Nrk, reported that rescue operations are still ongoing, while rescuers work tirelessly to bring to safety the remaining passengers, some of whom are still trapped in the vehicle.

Bent Are Eilertsen, chief of the Nordland Police District, explained that passengers of eight different nationalities were traveling aboard the bus, further complicating identification operations. Since it is a regular bus, in fact, there is no official list of passengers on board, making the work of rescuers and law enforcement officers particularly arduous in these emergency hours.

In the meantime, the Farnesina has also let it be known that it is in contact with local authorities to closely monitor the situation and verify whether any Italian citizens are among the victims or injured. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Minister Antonio Tajani was immediately informed of the incident, inviting anyone who needs information to contact the Crisis Unit at 06 36225 or download the Viaggiare Sicuri app.

The exact dynamics of the accident are yet to be clarified, but it seems that the difficult road conditions and harsh weather in the region may have played a decisive role in the tragedy.
