Tesla patron prepares to return to business as US president regains political space

The alliance between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, which had taken the form of a true symbiosis, seems to have come to an end. The founder of Tesla and SpaceX is set to leave his role as “super-adviser” to the U.S. administration. The news, reported by Politico, suggests that the separation is strategically motivated, with benefits for both.

Business at risk for Musk

On the one hand, Musk needs to refocus on his businesses. Excessive proximity to the US president has already begun to generate negative effects: boycotts, pressure from shareholders and managers, and a visible impact on Tesla’s stock market performance. Although the entrepreneur likes to present himself as an over-the-top man, he knows that political consensus does not guarantee financial stability.

Trump in search of political space

On the other hand, Trump also has his own reasons for loosening his ties with Musk. The South African billionaire, with his cumbersome personality and unpredictable statements, risked monopolizing the political debate, overshadowing the president himself. His constant presence in the White House narrative was creating ill-feeling among members of the administration and the Republican leadership.

A strategy that did not stand the test of government

What worked on the campaign trail-the marriage of Trump’s political pragmatism and Musk’s futuristic vision-began to creak the moment it moved from promises to concrete action. The tycoon’s X policy of explosive announcements and extemporaneous decisions clashed with the need for more structured governance.

An inevitable separation?

In the end, both interpretations seem valid. Musk leaves the White House to protect his business, while Trump regains leeway without the tycoon’s constant meddling. A decision that seems inevitable, beyond the real intentions of the two protagonists.
