Current US President Donald Trump has revoked the security clearances of his predecessor Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and several former top officials in his administration, marking a significant shift in inter-administration relations

US President Donald Trump has officially revoked the security clearances of his predecessor Joe Biden and other former high-profile officials. Prominent among them are the name of Kamala Harris, Trump’s former vice president and political rival, as well as Hillary Clinton, Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan.

Trump’s memo: ‘Revoke security clearances’

In a memo to the heads of government agencies, Trump ordered the immediate revocation of security clearances for these individuals. ‘I hereby direct each executive department and agency head to revoke any active security clearances held by the aforementioned individuals,’ Trump said.

This decision represents a break from tradition, which usually allowed former presidents and officials to maintain such clearances as an institutional courtesy. Trump decided to deny this privilege to his predecessor and other former officials, taking the political conflict to a new level.

A controversial move: Trump escalates political confrontation

The gesture appears to be a symbolic response to allegations made against Trump in the past, when he was investigated for mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort. The investigation was closed after his return to the White House in January 2025.
