Putin: ‘We will never give up what is ours’, tough message on Ukraine war

If it was not yet clear, Putin reiterates that he will not make any concessions on the lands already annexed by Russia and even those occupied… In short, it is reiterated, if it were needed, that the negotiations are only for an unconditional surrender of Kiev

‘We will never give up what is ours, we will not make concessions’. This was Russian President Vladimir Putin’s firm message during a meeting with beneficiaries of the ‘Defenders of the Fatherland’ foundation. His words come as the US, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, tries to mediate to start negotiations that could end the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for three years now.

Putin reiterated that Russia has no interest in ‘what belongs to others’, but does not intend to give up portions of territory it considers its own, particularly the partially occupied Ukrainian regions. Russia, he explained, is ready to negotiate a sustainable peace, but only one that respects the interests of the country and ensures lasting peace in a long-term historical perspective.

The Russian president then levelled harsh criticism at Emmanuel Macron, accusing him of trying to take Europe back to the days of Napoleon’s campaign, forgetting ‘how it ended’. Putin’s attack comes after statements by the French president, who called Russia a threat to Europe and France. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also compared Macron to Napoleon and Hitler, reinforcing the international criticism.
