The Pope continues his recovery with physiotherapy and drug therapy, but his resignation is not imminent

The situation of Pope Francis, who has been hospitalised for over a month now at the Gemelli polyclinic for bilateral pneumonia, has remained ‘stable in a complex picture’, with ‘slight improvements’ registered in his condition, especially with regard to respiratory and motor physiotherapy. The Vatican Press Office specified that a new medical bulletin will be issued tomorrow evening.

The positive news is that the Pope did not require non-invasive mechanical ventilation last night, limiting himself to high-flow oxygenation. However, Vatican sources warn that this should not be interpreted as a definitive situation, and that the Holy Father alternated high-flow oxygenation with a lighter mode during the day.

Pope Francis is continuing with drug therapy to combat pneumonia and is also continuing with physiotherapy. The Pope’s day has been punctuated by moments of prayer, rest and some work. The diet prescribed by the doctors also includes solid food. However, Vatican sources confirm that resignation is not imminent, with doctors speaking of days to be interpreted ‘broadly’.

With regard to the official visit of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla to the Vatican, scheduled for 8 April, the Press Office emphasised that information on state visits is communicated in the run-up to the event, so no further details were given at the moment.
