New Israeli attacks in Iran: explosions in Tehran and Fordow site hit

Raids on military and nuclear targets resume. Chief of Staff Zamir: ‘Full-force operation.’ Death toll rises in East Azerbaijan province

Israeli attacks on Iran resumed this evening, 13 June. Numerous explosions were reported in the area of the capital Tehran, particularly in the eastern and western areas, as reported by the New York Times.

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the army is continuing the offensive “at full force and at a high pace” with the aim of completing the mission launched earlier in the day, which targeted Iranian military and nuclear sites. Zamir called for a high level of preparedness on the home front, warning of the possibility of “difficult times” and the need to be ready for different scenarios.

The operation, called Rising Lion, also reportedly targeted the underground nuclear facility at Fordow. According to the Fars news agency, two explosions occurred near the site. Iranian broadcaster Press TV reports that the Islamic Republic’s air defences shot down an Israeli drone near Fordow, located south of the holy city of Qom.

Meanwhile, authorities in the province of East Azerbaijan, in north-western Iran, have updated the death toll to 18, doubling the previous estimate of 8. The official Iranian news agency Irna also reports 35 wounded as a result of the raids, which it describes as “brutal attacks”. The attacks reportedly hit 11 targets in the province, according to local sources.
